The top blanket photo is a happy accident from a photo shoot for an etsy listing.  The wind was both for us and against us today. 

I planted some garlic, which was another gift/exchange from a coworker of theother23's.  X pointed out possible blight on one of our trees.  Otherwise, the gardens are coming along nicely.  Only two more things to plant this season:  cilantro and rosemary. 

Must. Find. Cilantro. AND. Rosemary.

linkage 2009 :: eight

Rainy day, so linkage.

I accumulate so many links and forget to look back on them, use them as inspiration, or share them with others.  Here's a little reminder for myself and maybe some interesting things for you. 

• Fuji Instant Mini 7S "Last Model" - I want this very, very badly.  So, if you're up for being my generous benefactor ...
• WolframAlpha computational knowledge engine - I've had a lot of fun with this since it launched about one week ago.
• 100 Ideas - I imagine that a lot of you have seen this list before, but I felt it worth revisiting.
• reclamation - Another abandoned house project, but with hope.
• Sneak Peek: Jessica Lynch - I. Love. This. House.  Especially the exterior. 
• Peg Board Jewelry Organizer - I have been looking at this closely.  I like the flexibility of being able to easily move the hooks around on this one, but still think that I'd prefer to frame a plain piece of wood, paint it all one color, and then add my own permanent hooks.  And, when referring to the making of it, by I, I mean ... my husband.  I'm not screwing all those hooks on there. 
• Spicy Mustard Potatoes - These were really good.  I added some olive oil to the coating. 

(The photo is a vintage beaded clutch made exclusively for Gimbel's in, probably, the 1950s or 1960s.  We've had it for almost a decade, but selling it now in our vintage shop, Happenchance Meets Circumstance, to make room for other vintage pieces.)

Memorial weekend has been nice so far. 

The last 24 hours?  We had a friend spend the night, went out for breakfast, made fish tacos for lunch, dug a new garden bed (butternut squash, sunflowers, solidago, a gifted sunsugar tomato plant, random flower-seed mixture), then lined it with old sidewalk concrete that we found buried a foot beneath the soil while digging the bed. 

No plans for the evening besides "Breaking Bad". 

Tomorrow?  Schmunday.

beautiful morning

It has been a beautiful morning. 

My main reason for posting, though, is to link to the vegan rhubarb crisp recipe that I've been using.  An aside:  If you're avoiding sugar, AVOID THIS RECIPE. 

For example, my teeth hurt just from typing that. 

Also, this recipe works great if you throw in some raspberries, strawberries, and/or blueberries with the rhubarb.  Fruit, fruit, fruit ... AND SUGAR.

vintage etsy shop

 

I'm again hawking vintage items, partly to make more room here at home and partly because I can't see something I love without buying it, even if that means selling it to someone else.

I shared some plants (rhubarb and hollyhocks) with one of theother23's co-workers, and today I planted what I received in return (salvia, sedum, and solidago).  It was very windy, thus a lot of photos of flowers nearly horizontal.

In seven to ten days, I should receive my heirloom tomato and sweet pepper transplants from Seed Saver's Exchange.  While their company is based in Iowa, the transplants are grown and shipped from Spring Green, Wisconsin, which is within 30 minutes of where we live. 

I can't wait until they arrive.

I ran outside between raindrops this morning, and before the severe weather blows in, to pick rhubarb.  I think that it'll be a good day for making vegan rhubarb crisp. 

And, as always, I can't resist taking a photo of the youngest compost pile.
