Yesterday, I went down to the river for a while. I knew that the ice was beginning to form. It snaps and seems as though it is alive. You can see and hear the air moving around between the ice and water in the thin spots. I spent most of my time laying on the slick surface and taking photos. Here are the ones taken from that position. Home, sweet cold, home.
Yesterday, I posted pre-storm photos and can be compared to the ones you see here. At the top of this post is a picture that I took from the master bedroom window around midnight last eve. All the photos below were snapped around 11 o'clock this morning. Now, five hours later, the storm is nearly over and the subzero temperatures are blowing into southcentral Wisconsin along with a wind chill advisory.

I am in my element. I love this weather ... and it's not even Winter yet!
I feel so quiet lately. Maybe it is the season?
I mean, this is my favorite time of year. I love the darkness, the cold, the bearing down to be warm, and the extra work to be fed. The upcoming solstice is my most anticipated day of the year because it is so dark, although the true meaning, "the return of the sun", saddens me as we will gradually have more daylight thereafter, and, eventually, warmer weather.
While being quiet, I think a lot during the gray days. I wish that I had the motivation to follow through with more of my thoughts. In due time, I suspect.

I love this time of year, the darkness and grasping at light. I'm not too happy about the weather though. Where's the cold? Where's the snow? Boo. Hiss. (Update: Winter weather advisory tonight!)
The mornings contain a lot of peeking out the windows at the birds, especially alongside the cats. The afternoons are often about getting dinner together before it's too dark to see what I'm doing.
