I love this time of year, the darkness and grasping at light. I'm not too happy about the weather though. Where's the cold? Where's the snow? Boo. Hiss. (Update: Winter weather advisory tonight!)
The mornings contain a lot of peeking out the windows at the birds, especially alongside the cats. The afternoons are often about getting dinner together before it's too dark to see what I'm doing.
I take a lot of photos through my windows. Most of them don't get posted on my blog, yet some do (in the "favorite views" category). Today, I am posting a few for a friend's photo challenge. (Her blog is HERE.)
I found it serendipituous that it happened to be a foggy morning on the day I appointed myself to snap the pictures.

A lot of people who know that I love Winter think that it's all about the snow.
It's not. At all.
While the snow is pretty, for me it's really about the cold. I'm not talking 20s and 30s. I like single-digit and below-zero temps. The colder, the better. The colder, the more pristine.
Anyhow, still, snow IS nice. I have counted six snowfalls so far this autumn, but this was the first to really stick. A welcome sight, for sure.

Also? I am damn determined to catch up on reading, and maybe even leaving a comment for, all my peeps. I'm getting there, folks, I'm getting there.
Lying in bed, looking up at the sky via the window above our bed. We've had a lot of cloudy days and, from the moon, bright nights.

This is the view from our side porch, which is on the north side of the house. We never use this door ... well, except for that time when I didn't want the neighbor to know that I was home when she had knocked and I didn't answer, so I instead snuck out the side door with the dog and came down the street like I'd been out walking the dog the whole time.
It came in pretty handy that day.
(An aside: Local people, are you familiar with the WISC-TV weather calendar? If you happen to see/buy one this year, one of my photos represent December 2009. They are also showing the photo as a background image during the television commercial for the calendar.)
Again with the west window over the bed ... but, this time a little after seven o'clock in the morning. The water tower generally appears white, which is the color that it is painted.
Despite my lackluster posts this week (meaning that I should have time for being productive), I have accomplished NOTHING around the house or from my list of goals. It's freaking ridiculous. I am, like, emotionally and physically paralyzed. Or, something.
So, I'm not even going to bother posting an update of my October goals this week and, in fact, may extend the goal list (stuff like exercising two hours a day and autumn cleaning the house) straight through November.

Our entire house has only two south windows, and generally poor lighting overall, which is unfortunate because it has really affected the number of houseplants that I have at present. Does anyone have some favorites to recommend that are cat-resistant, low-light houseplants? As seen in the naughty cat video, even succulents fall prey to persistent felines. I'm looking for all varieties ... hanging plants, small pots for a dresser or table, and larger plants that could stand alone next to pieces of furniture.
I am also looking for very small, flat plant lights that I could mount under my upper kitchen cupboards, so that I can grow herbs on my counter. If anyone spots something like that, please pass along the link. Thank you. (Maybe I can find a mini version of a regular plant light?!)
