It has been miserably hot the last few days. For anyone that doesn't know, I'm all about the winter. I am not talking oh-look-at-the-beautiful-snow. I like subzero temperatures, walking on frozen lakes, harsh conditions, fierce blizzards.
So, trying not to whine, I sat down to tap out some things that made me pause and smile. No more had I completed the following list... and clouds rolled in, a cool and steady breeze came through the open windows, it began to thunder, and finally it rained.
The house is comfortable again.

Thanks to everyone for your input regarding my hotel-bedroom. I, too, like things minimalistic, especially in the sleeping quarters. After thinking it over quite a bit, I believe that the only thing I will eventually change (besides fresh paint) is to get different bedside lamps. I'd like to attach them a bit higher on the wall to help balance it out a bit. I might also add a shade to the window at some point.
That's all that I have for today. Have a great week, folks.

Okay, so ... We leave for Eau Claire tomorrow afternoon. I have been cleaning all week. Today we begin packing, finish up laundry and lists, and try to get a decent night of sleep. Tomorrow, we will do some last-minute shopping, finish packing, take the dog to the kennel, and make our way north.
In the midst of all this, I noticed that the sleeping area of our bedroom looks kind of like a hotel, except for the odd window above the bed, which I happen to like quite a lot. Since I have been washing and vacuuming this room, the night stands aren't styled at present. The window should have some sort of dressing on it, but I am not sure what. I have not gotten a headboard for this bed because I feel it would clash with the window. I'm always thinking about what to do with this room. Well, all the rooms actually.
My dad bought the tapestry, for my mom, at the state fair more than 35 years ago. The hope chest was my mom's, and the Danish night stands and (unpictured) dresser belonged to my parents when they were first married. Treasures.

I love my backyard.
Yes ... My lilacs are overgrown. My apple tree has seen better days. Our shed is no longer square to the ground. There are gardening implements leaning against the compost bins. My peas and radishes are not planted. The peppermint has not been trimmed. The main garden is a weedy mess and I still need to dig up transplants for my cousin.
I love my backyard.
Here are a few things inspiring me:

I was going to garden today or tomorrow. Perhaps I should check the weather ahead of time when I make plans since it is actually a chilly and wet weekend. I guess that I shall stay indoors, make delicious food, and read instead.
I'm in the middle of "Midnight to the North: The Inuit Woman who Saved the Polaris Expedition". (The link goes to the book description on GoodReads. Feel free to friend me!) I really like tales of explorers charting the (then-unknown) north, traversing glaciers and icy waters.
My copy of Jenny Hill's "Regular Expressions: the facebook status update poems" arrived today and I'm really enjoying that. I found my status and the response poem that Jenny wrote on page 42. Of course, she sent along a sweet note telling me where to look.
Anyhow, I hope that you are all having a nice weekend and that you checked the forecast before making plans.
