Ah! And, he is gone again.
We think that it's just for a week. (If you don't already know, my husband aka theother23, is an operations manager for a wind energy company. He used to travel a lot, mostly in the US but recently in Nicaragua. Now, he is not gone quite so much.) Today, he went into work late and we had breakfast together after my medical appointment. Then, I came home and packed his bag. He stopped by the office and took care of a few last minute things. X was off to work at the library. He returned home one more time and then started his drive to O'Hare.
Anyhow, all is well. I have a few projects that have been waiting for me to find the time for them. I have a book to read. I need to write. Really, really need to write. I feel healthy.
How are you and what are you doing this week?
*A nod to our friend, Joseph, for inspiring the title by sharing THIS VIDEO with us.

It is my birthday.
I spent this day with two of my favorite people and I didn't have to leave the house once. TO23 took slices of cake to my uncle and grandma. At first, I was disappointed by the warm rain, then elated when it very late turned to snow. We watched a show on giant catfish that I had previously DVR'd. (If you know me well, you understand how apt this general species is on this particular day. That is one of many personal bonds. I suppose that we all have them, and I hope really so.)
As on most any Winter day, we ate simple, good foods like oatmeal in the morning and roasted root vegetables in the darkened late afternoon. An aside: I can't believe that I had never eaten a turnip until last week, and now I roast them every chance that I get. I had no idea that they would burst with juice, even with a nice caramelization. My husband picked up a store-bought birthday cake from Brennan's, as requested, and I ate more than necessary at two pieces.
I haven't seen all of my dears yet this season, and that is on my list of things to do as soon as possible. I need to catch up with so many people, both family and friends, either by email/internet or written word and, maybe even, PHONE. I dread the telephone so much. I can do business nicely, but I am not so comfortable with the chit-chat. I am better in person or typed word. I like the dynamics that go with each of those. I have also lost any sense of time or courtesy when it comes to snail mail. I hope to recapture that long-lost love this next year.
Tonight, after theother23 and X played a game on the Wii, which hasn't seen much action since the PS3 came along, we watched the aforementioned catfish show on the telly and are now settling in with our individual modern machines -- I am on my Windows laptop. X is on her Mac. TO23 is on his PSP. The house is mostly clean and it smells good. I've had my fill of food and love.
At this moment, I've had the perfect amount of everything, the just enough.
Happy merry.

The most favorite time of the year for me is the dark months of November, December, and January. I love the symbiotic relationship that I have with darkness and light. The frigid, subzero temperatures that blow through my bones baptize my body and and mind, yet without my husband here ... I fall into an emotional coma.
(He is in Nicaragua for most of the next few months to build a wind farm that will power, among other things, a beautiful and eco-friendly resort.)
December holds Winter Solstice, my birthday, our 20th anniversary, and the eve of a new year. All seeming so meaningless now, despite attempts to focus on projects and family and love and friends.
Instead, I write bad poetry.
Still, the photo of Luna above, it is what my heart looks like inside of my body.
Waiting.

These photos have nothing to do with the context of this post, but I do like my husband's hard hats.
This is the most recently retired one. He brought it into the house so that I could use the pin on the front, which was a gift from me some years back, as a model for a variety skulls that he'd like me to sketch for his most recent tattoo. He's already spent eight hours getting this one inked ... with many hours to go.

On Saturday, I put down my gardening gloves for a moment to take a photo of this 35-ton sling that was sitting in the back of my husband's truck. The photo does NOT do it justice.
