On Saturday, the autumn 2009 edition of The Capitola Review was released. It contains one of my poems as well as a photo from December of 2007.

cow chip festival

out and about

There's so much to do this weekend. Of primary interest are a) the local Cow Chip Festival and b) Taste of Madison. .

The former we do almost every single year, at least a bit or a piece of it, because it's so wonderfully kitschy and speaks of our community. It can also be an opportunity for some damn interesting photos once the shit starts to fly. Literally.

As for the latter, I am salivating as I type this. The downside is PEOPLE!!!! EN MASSE!!!!! Odi profanum vulgus et arceo. We may or may not go. If so, I'm leaning towards Sunday.

If you see me at either event, be sure to say hello. And, no matter what the stretch of days hold for you ... enjoy.

somewhat back from holiday

I thought that I'd come back from Black River Falls and do a nice little post about the adventure, or maybe five long posts, but I can't even begin to sum it up in words nor photos nor video. I see many daytrips back to there in my future, and in X's future, as she fell in love with the queer little town.

In the meantime, HERE is a video from the observation tower near dike 17 in Black River State Forest. More videos to come, more photos to come, and a few more words on the whole experience ... if I can find them.

on weekend holiday

We're on a weekend holiday -- the Black River, Black River State Forest, and staying in the town of Black River Falls (upon which "Wisconsin Death Trip" is based).

polka on the riverway

On Friday, I spent a few hours at Polka on the Riverway. I didn't dance, but nostalgia was in the air and this took me back to my childhood.

walk :: 07.13.09

Today, we went to the sand and oak barrens. X has always called it "the outback" due to her correlating it with the scenery and dialogue in the comic/animation, "The Maxx". (From Wiki, "The series follows the adventures of the titular hero in the real world and in an alternate reality, referred to as The Outback.")

I like the barrens because it reminds me of the property, almost 200 acres, where my childhood home was located, which contained woods, creek, and dry prairie dappled with oak groves, prickly-pear cacti, and sand dunes. (The landscapes of Wisconsin are incredibly diverse and varied.)

I'm not sure what my recent obsession with grackles is all about, but I think that it has something to do with the beautiful way that they gather on the ground to pick at the bones of the earth.

silent hill ... aka no brand con 2009

This year, we attended NoBrandCon in Eau Claire for a fourth year. I cosplayed for the first time ever. X cosplays at most of the cons that we attend, which is generally four to five per year.

We were nurses from Silent hill. I was a non-canon nurse and X was a nurse from the third video game. Pyramid Head, who appears in some of the photos, is from the Silent Hill series, which consists of six (and soon seven) games, several graphic novels and an omnibus, as well as a movie.

I have some videos that I'll post in the next day or two in the VIDEO section of my site, some recorded by me and some by theother23.
